SINGLE MIXED RELAY

A team in a single mixed relay consists of one woman and one man who each compete in two legs, where legs 1 and 3 are a total of 6 km and legs 2 and 4 are a total of 7.5 km. Each leg has two shootings; prone and standing. Each athlete is entitled to use three spare bullets per shooting bout. If they miss despite the spare bullet, they have to do a penalty loop. A penalty loop in Single mixed relay is 75 m long. The first team to cross the finish line wins. There can be different starting orders, so either a woman or a man competes in leg one and three, while the other gender competes in leg two and four.

MIXED RELAY
A team in Mixed Relay consists of two women and two men. All of them ski 6 km and each athlete has two shootings, prone and standing. Each athlete is entitled to use three spare bullets per shooting bout. If they miss despite the spare bullet, they have to do a penalty loop. A penalty loop in Mix relay is 150 m long. The first team to cross the finish line wins. There can be different starting orders, so either women or men competes in leg one and two, while the other gender competes in leg three and four.

RELAY
A team in Relay consists of four athletes, men or women. All athletes skies a distance (women 6 km and men 7,5 km) where each athlete shoot twice, prone and standing. Each athlete is allowed to use three spare bullets per shooting bout. If they miss despite the spare bullet, they have to do a penalty loop. A penalty round is 150 m long. The first team to cross the finish line wins.

SPRINT
Men compete over 10 km, the women over 7.5 km, and shoot twice (prone- standing). One missed shot means a penalty loop of 150 m..

INDIVIDUAL
The men compete over 20 km, the women over 15 km, and shoot four times (prone-standing-prone-standing). One missed shot means a one-minute penalty.

TARGETS
The hitting area for prone shooting is 4.5 cm and for standing it is 11.5 cm. The aiming area is always 11.5 cm The distance to the targets is 50 meters. Number of targets for the WC in Östersund is 30. The shooting takes place at the same site throughout the whole competition. The target system in Östersund is Kurvinen Targets.

WEAPONS
The weapons have a barrel caliber of 5.6 mm (.22 in. long rifle) and muzzle velocity must not exceed 360 m/s. The weapons are specially produced for biathlon and the minimum allowable weight of the weapon is 3.5 kg.
